Bizet's Carmen
|
 |
|
| Presenter: | Opera Australia's OzOpera |
| Description: | A soldier, a cigarette-factory worker, a group of smugglers and gypsies together with a bull -fighter make up the cast of one of the world’s first operas to tell a story about ordinary people caught up in extraordinary circumstances. Carmen is the ultimate lover. Passionate, determined, strong willed and resourceful, she provides the perfect foil to the weak-minded
spineless Don José.
OzOpera’s sizzling new production of Carmen is brought to life by the same team that had audiences across Australia laughing, crying and cheering wildly with La bohème. Richard Gill’s new performing version is created by Director, Adam Cook (Artistic Director, State Theatre Company, South Australia) and Designer, Stephen Curtis (whose astonishing
designs include Lulu for Opera Australia, and the film Looking for Alibrandi), and performed with members of
Orchestra Victoria.
Conducted by Patrick Miller, Directed by Adam Cook, Design by Stephen Curtis, Lighting design by Gavan Swift, With musicians from Orchestra Victoria, English translation by Keith and Emma Warner, Performing version by Richard Gill. Sung in English.
