| Description: | Llareggub comes back to life in a rich new production of Under Milk Wood starring Michael Craig, fondly remembered star of the ABC series "GP" leading a distinguished cast including Kirsty Child and Dion Mills. The production will open at The Playhouse, Canberra Theatre, on Thursday 27 July.
DYLAN THOMAS gave an early draft of Under Milk Wood an apt title: The Town Was Mad. Contrary to the traditional depiction of the setting as a quaint Welsh seaport, a careful reading of the text suggests a very different view:
Under Milk Wood is hilarious, irreverent and full of boisterously scandalous doings as it sketches the whole population of Llareg-gub, a tiny seaside town. And if you can't find Llareggub in your Lonely Planet guide to Wales, a clue is to spell the town's name backwards. We glimpse the overbearing, the drunken, the lecherous, the promiscuous, the innocent and the guilty as they work, gossip, sleep and dream.
The town's story is told in some of the most gloriously clever, wick-ed, funny and beautiful language ever written. For the four fine actors it is a virtuoso performance. For the audience, a unique and vastly entertaining experience.
