ACCESS & SPECIAL ASSISTANCE

CANBERRA THEATRE CENTRE OFFERS A NUMBER OF ACCESS & SPECIAL ASSISTANCE INITIATIVES INCLUDING:

AUDIO DESCRIBED PERFORMANCES

Audio description is an innovation for sight-impaired patrons. Audio Describers provide live description of essential visual information, provided in the gaps between the actor's dialogue for people who are blind or visually impaired. With the assistance of Vision Australia this service is complimentary and operates for specially denoted performances. Discreet receivers are available for collection prior to the performance and our staff will show you how to adjust them for your use.

To access this service check the Audio Described Performance dates and contact Canberra Ticketing or complete the online special seating request form to make a booking.

LIVE CAPTIONING

Canberra Theatre Centre has now incorporated live captioning into selected Subscription Season performances. Live Captioning benefits the hearing impaired and also those for whom English is a second language.   Realtime captioning is used for live performances. A stenocaptioner use shorthand machines to key in words which then appear immediately on a plasma screen placed in the auditorium. Keying at speeds of 220 to 280 words per minute, stenocaptioners enable the text to be displayed very shortly after the words are spoken.

To access this service check the Live Captioned Performance dates and contact Canberra Ticketing or complete the online special seating request form to make a booking.

FM RADIO ASSISTED HEARING LOOP
Canberra Theatre Centre provides an FM Radio Assisted Hearing Loop for patrons who require hearing assistance. Discreet receivers are available for collection prior to the performance from the front of house staff. The FM Hearing Loop is available for all performances and to access this service you do not need to request in advance, however, you should allow additional time prior to the start of the performance for the collection of the receiver.
